Summary
This 2-day adventure takes us on a kayak journey down the Mekong River to the island of Don Deng. Along the way, you will observe the way of life led by local villagers and enjoy the river’s remarkable scenery. Included is a river crossing to explore the famous Wat Phou archeological site and cycling around the island of Don Deng. This adventure is a great way to explore the Laotian way of life along the mighty Mekong

Day by day Itinerary
Day 1
Pakse to Don DengDeparting from your hotel in Pakse, you are transported by private vehicle to Ban Huia Deua. After a brief kayaking orientation, the journey begins by paddling down the Mekong River along the rim of the Phou Salou and Nang Maloung mountains. Along the way, it is possible to observe villagers fishing, bathing, and leading their lives along the river. After kayaking and alighting to hike up to the top of a hill to a temple built by villagers, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Sipandone (4000 Islands) and the mountains that surround it.
After lunch, the journey by kayak continues, passing through small rapids and eventually arriving at Dong Deng Island. Here, you spend the night and relax on the beach. The accommodation is your choice between an eco-lodge and a homestay. As the island is remote, there is not yet electricity available.
This day of the adventure consists of five hours of kayaking and a 30-minute transfer.
Day 2
Don Deng to PakseAfter a hearty breakfast, the adventure resumes with cycling to a village that is famous for bamboo-cooked sticky rice. Early in the morning, it is likely that monks seeking alms will be about on the local roads. Crossing the river, the tour continues with a visit to the famous Wat Phou, the historic temple that is one of the main attractions in this region of Laos. After a lunch stop along the Mekong, you will be taken across the Mekong by boat and then by local transport to the Tomo Temple, considered to be the female counterpart to the Temple of Shiva at Wat Phou. From there, you are returned to your hotel in Paske.
This adventure involves approximately four hours of cycling and two hours of boat and land transportation.
Note: On this adventure, cycling can only be done in the dry season from October to May.
