Day by day Itinerary
Day 1
BANGKOK — AYUTHAYAYour guide and driver will meet you at your hotel and depart from Bangkok to Ayuthaya.
10:30 Visit the Bang Pa-In Summer Palace of King Rama V in a large park with waterways. The royal compound features a variety of architectural styles and it was first used by the Royal Court as a summer retreat in the 17th century. Unfortunately, the palace was later destroyed with the fall of Ayuthaya and then restored by King Rama IV in the mid-19th century. After visiting the palace, you will proceed to Ayuthaya and have lunch at a local restaurant.
After lunch, you will visit Wat Ratchaburana and the Chao Sam Phraya Museum. The temple's main prang is one of the finest architectural jewels in Ayuthaya. In 1957, the temple's crypt was looted by a large number of Buddha images and gold artifacts. The thieves were later caught, but only a few of the treasures that were recuperated are now housed in the Chao Sam Phraya Museum. (The museum is closed on Monday and Tuesday as well as on public holidays; in this ultimate case, a visit to the Thai Boat Museum will be available for you).
Before checking-in at your hotel, you will have a stop for a visit to Ayuthaya's Floating Market. The objective of this market is to help, preserve, and promote Thai arts and culture. Here, you will experience the uniqueness of Thai customs and traditions as well as their simple way of living. You can take a walk along the very long canal and enjoy various tasty foods in the market. Or you can opt for different shops in Thai pavilions surrounding the floating market.
Check-in at your hotel in Ayuthaya.

During its heyday Ayudhya was one of greatest and richest cities in Asia, envied not only by the Burmese but by the Europeans as well. Under King Ramesuan Ayudhya conquered the great Khmer kingdom of Angkor Wat and brought back precious Khmer artefacts, treasures and artisans to Siam.
Day 2
AYUTHAYA — NAKHON RATCHASIMAAfter breakfast, your guide and driver will meet you at your hotel around 09:00 a.m. You will depart for a visit to the gigantic bronze statues of Wat Mongkhon Bophit, the three ancient pagodas at Wat Phra Si Sanpeth, and Wat Phra Mahathat. Wat Mongkhon Bophit houses one of the largest bronze statues in Thailand (12.5 meters high, 17-meter base). The royal temple of Wat Phra Si Sanpeth features three very well-preserved stupas built in the 15th century and this is also one of the most photographed temples in Ayuthaya. Last but not least, Wat Phra Mahathat is well known for the sandstone Buddha head tangled within the roots of a sacred tree.
After visiting Ayuthaya, you will continue your trip to Nakhon Ratchasima (also known as Korat) and stop for lunch at a local restaurant en route. For lunch, you can taste the local signature dishes such as Pad Thai ('Pad Mee Korat'), Som Tum (spicy papaya salad), or Kai Yang (Isan grilled chicken).
After lunch, your driver will take you to Pimai where you will visit the museum and the magnificent Khmer temples, also known as the “Angkor Wat of Thailand.” This temple compound was supposedly built by King Jayavarman VI in the 11th century and features architectural elements of that period. Further on, you will go to Ban Dan Kwian Pottery Village and there you will see the potters who are very famous in this area. Here you will also visit the retail market on the roadside and walk through the village and witness the pottery process live.
Check-in at your hotel in Korat.
Day 3
NAKORNRATCHASRIMA — SARABURI — LOPBURI — SUKHOTHAIAfter breakfast, your guide and driver will meet you at your hotel and depart to Lopburi around 08:00 a.m.
On the way to Lopburi, you will stop in Saraburi at Phra Buddha Badh, a shrine featuring the holy footprint of Lord Buddha. In Lopburi, you will enjoy a sightseeing tour, including a visit to the museum of the Narai Raja Nives Palace (closed on Monday), the Prang Sam Yot (the Sacred Three Pagodas), and the ruin of Wat Phra Si Ratana Mahathat as well as the Monkey Temple. The Narai Raja Nives Palace is the place where the king received foreign diplomats. The Prang Sam Yot is Lopburi's most famous Buddhist temple and it features three sacred pagodas dating back to the 13th century and two headless Buddha images. Wat Phra Si Ratana Mahathat is a Kmer temple built in the 12th century and it has the tallest prang in the region.
After lunch at a local restaurant, you will continue the trip and proceed to Sukhothai. Before checking-in at your hotel, you will stop for a visit to Sukhothai’s pottery village. Here you will see how local artisans use the ancient Sangkhalok skills to produce wonderful hand-painted dishes and other objects. You will have the opportunity to learn some of these skills for yourself and practice your painting skills on the pottery dishes.
Check-in at your hotel in Sukhothai.
Day 4
SUKHOTHAI — SRI SATCHANALAI — LAMPANGAfter breakfast, your guide and driver will meet you at your hotel and go to visit the famous ruins of Thailand's first capital, Sukhothai (1257-1379). In the central zone, you will explore the sacred temples of Wat Mahathat and Wat Sa Si, while in the northern zone Wat Si Chum is a key sight of Sukhothai. Wat Mahathat is the largest temple compound of the former capital of Siam and the main chedi features lotus-bud motifs, Buddha figures, and other 198 small chedis. The Wat Sa Si is a good example of the Sukhothai classic temples and features a large Buddha statue. Despite its isolated location, Wat Si Chum contains an impressive 15-meter high seated Buddha (one of the most photographed places in Sukhothai).
After visiting Sukhothai, you will continue toward Si Satchanalai, a northern outpost town surrounded by a wide moat built by King Ramkamhaeng in the 13th to 15th centuries. Here you will visit Wat Chang Lom, Wat Chedi Jet Thaew, Wat Nang Phya, and Wat Phra Si Ratana Mahathat (which stands on the site of the Khmer fort called "Chalieng").
Check-in at your hotel in Lampang.
Day 5
LAMPANG — PHAYAO — GOLDEN TRIANGLE — CHIANG SAENAfter breakfast, your guide and driver will meet you at your hotel and drive to Ko Kah, where you will visit Wat Phra Dhat Lampang Luang. This temple houses the only Emerald Buddha (besides the one at Wat Phra Kao in Bangkok). Then you will depart for Phayao, a unique rural town sitting by a charming lake and once the princely state whose former glory will be seen at Wat Sri Kom Kam. From here, you will proceed to Chiang Rai and have lunch at a local restaurant. Then you will continue to Chiang Saen, the former capital of the first Thai Kingdom, situated directly on the Mekong River, at the border between Thailand and Laos. Climb up 383 steps to the top of the hill and explore Wat Phra That Chom Kitti, a temple that is said to have been erected before the founding of the kingdom.
In Chiang Saen, you will also visit Wat Chedi Luang and a small museum nearby. Wat Chedi Luang has an octagonal stupa that was built in the classic Lanna style. The nearby museum gives a lot of information about hill-tribe communities, the history of the Golden Triangle, and the opium culture. Next, you will continue your trip with a long-tailed speedboat upriver on the Mekong and reach the iconic Golden Triangle. This is the place where the borders of Thailand, Myanmar, and Laos convene. However, keep in mind that the Golden Triangle is an area rather than a spot (or a fixed place) and it is linked to the opium trade that was once very active in the region.
Check-in at your hotel in Chiang Saen.
Day 6
CHIANG SAEN — DOI MAE SALONG — MAE SAI — CHIANG RAIAfter breakfast, your guide and driver will meet you at your hotel and depart from Chiang Saen to visit a Lisu Village at Baan Mae Kaotom. Many hill-tribe communities live in the northern part of Thailand (e.g. Akha, Lisu, Karen - Long Neck, Hmong, etc.), and the Lisu are part of these communities, featuring a distinct culture and traditions.
After that, you will continue to Doi Mae Salong and pass through beautiful mountain scenery. The view from the top takes in a large part of Thailand, Myanmar, and the Mekong Valley that makes this trip very worthwhile. Enjoy your lunch at Mae Salong Villa in Doi Mae Salong, and then head to Ban Lorcha, a Phami-Akha hill-tribe community center. This community-development project promotes sustainable tourism and self-reliant development to improve the villagers' quality of life in the community. The project is a touring model for other hill-tribe villages. You will continue your trip to Mae Sai, the northernmost Thai town on the Myanmar border. Here, you will walk around the local market with many shopping opportunities and then proceed to Chiang Rai.
