Day by day Itinerary
Day 1
Sunrise at Phnom BakhengRising before daylight, your Adventure Asia guide transports you by private car to the remarkable Phnom Bakheng, a Hindu temple residing on a holy hill. The edifice is 37m in height and within minutes of climbing it you will be greeted with the stunning vista of sunrise over Angkor Wat- as well as a panoramic view of Siem Reap, the Western Reservoir and traditional rice paddies that lay beyond. The trek then descends to the south gate of Angkor Thom, the last and most enduring capital city of the Khmer empire and onto the ‘Citadel of Women’ Banteay Srei Temple, located an hour away. Here one can admire masterful carvings in pink sandstone and buildings that are miniature in scale when measured by Angkorian standards. It is considered the jewel of Khmer artwork. After a morning of discovery, you return to Siem Reap for a late breakfast and short rest.
Late morning the trek resumes with a visit to Angkor Wat itself. The iconic temple was constructed by King Suryavarman II in the 12th century and is dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu. Angkor Wat is the symbol of Meru Mountain, homage to the gods, and its ramparts symbolize the mountain while its moat represents the ocean that surrounds Mount Meru. Angkor Wat’s main function was to be the funeral temple and shrine that would entomb the king’s ashes after his passing.
After lunch and transfer to Bayon temple, you are greeted to the smiling visages of the divine emotions of Charity, Compassion, Sympathy and Equanimity. Next the trek continues to Preah Khan temple, which is the largest Buddhist temple in the kingdom of Cambodia. The day is finished at Ta Prohm, which gained fame as the site of the movie “Tomb Raider”, starring international actress Angelina Jolie.

Day 2
Beng MealeaThe trek begins after sunrise with a 90-minute journey from Siem Reap through the beautiful Cambodian countryside, past rice paddies and Khmer villages scattered along the way, toward Beng Mealea Temple. This temple, now reachable by passable roads, was built in Angkorian style and has only recently begun to attract visitors. This beautiful, well-preserved site has retained much of its original character despite being relatively un-restored. Evoking an Indiana Jones-style ambiance, it is thrilling to take in its galleries, towers, courtyards and ruins that are inundated with a wild mix of thriving jungle trees and brush. Its remoteness is the very reason one can observe this temple in an unspoiled manner, with it having avoided the fate of its well-known counterparts in the heavily patronized grounds of the Angkor Wat complex.
To complete the day’s trek and the return to Siem Reap, you travel by motorboat to Kampong Phluk, the “flooding forest” of Tonle Sap Lake, and the floating villages that reside thereon before returning to Siem Reap and your hotel.
