Museums and pagodas scatter the city, and Hoan Kiem Lake serves as the center point to reach just anywhere. Hanoi Old Quarter, the cultural, dining, entertainment, and shopping heart of the city is worth the majority of your time to discover, including the Fine Arts Museum, which was built in the 1930s as a Girl School for Indochina high-ranked officers. In 1966, it officially became the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum, which stored many of Vietnamese artistic essences. The museum displays not only paintings, ceramics, and lacquers, created by modern Post-war artists, but many of its contents date back as far as pre-historic and feudalism times. The Temple of
Literature was constructed in 1070, under Ly Thanh Tong’s dynasty, first to honor Confucius and nowadays to celebrate the doctorates and high-rank scholars of Vietnam. In 1076, King Ly Nhan Tong continued the work and built Quoc Tu Giam as the first university of Vietnam. Sword Lake and a 1-hour panoramic Cyclo in the bustling Old Quarter, with its 36 corporate streets.
In the evening: enjoy the famous Water Puppets Show; a traditional content of water puppet performance like the daily life of Vietnamese farmers (cultivating, tending buffalo, catching fish, etc.), communal entertainment (swimming contest, dragon dancing, etc.), or historical legends (Le Loi returns precious sword), with modest performances which have appealed to audiences for centuries. However, the artists of Thang Long Water Puppet Theater want to renew the old puppet shows with the effect of light, music, and a combination between people and puppets.

Besides the multiple well-preserved communal houses and clans’ ancestral houses, the nostalgic beauty of the once premises of high-ranking mandarins, royal descendants, or aristocrats, holds a great attraction to visitors. Their aesthetic wooden architectures and Fengshui-based immense gardens suggest a mingling of the delicate art of living and the deep-rooted local traditions. Cruising on the poetic Huong River (aka Perfume River), cycling on peaceful shady paths, meeting local farmers, tasting the seasonal, local fruit, trying hands at the local handicraft, and above all, helping to prepare a home meal are unforgettable delights thoughtfully designed for a relaxing but enriching discovery.

Farther and farther away from the tourist quarter, in a laid-back Cyclo, the night tranquility will show you the inner soul of Hue. Suddenly, the street food stalls come into sight with their exciting sounds and appealing smells, to tease your appetite, and a crispy Hue-styled pancake or lemongrass skewers will be worth a try, with both your hands and your tongue. Sweet soups may not be your favorite desserts, but Hue’s varieties of colors and flavors, especially the roast pork dumpling in syrup, will promise of a sweet ending for a sweet night! Take it easy and make it funny.

Day 7
HOI AN – COOKING CLASS (PRIVATE CLASS)This morning is reserved for a memorable cooking class at Red Bridge School.
Leave your hotel and head to the meeting point, Hai Scout Café. Enjoy a welcome drink. Visit Hoi An’s colorful market, and experience the amazing sights, sounds, and aromas of this busy market and at the same time, interact with the local sellers and purchase some of the ingredients to be used in the cooking lesson later.
Board the boat for a leisurely cruise (25 minutes) along the Hoi An River, to the Red Bridge Cooking School, a good chance to catch some of the local life.
Upon arrival, discover the cooking school’s herb and vegetable garden, before learning about some of Hoi An’s and Vietnam’s well-known dishes. The cooking lesson lasts for about 2 hours – each dish is firstly demonstrated by the Red Bridge chefs before you prepare the same dish yourself. Included in the class is a brief introduction to Vietnamese food carving (plate decoration). After the lesson, sit down and enjoy what you have cooked.
In the afternoon, take a walking tour of Hoi An, which still retains much of its Asian authentic architecture, as well as its nostalgic ambiance. On this UNESCO World Heritage Site still stands various constructions of different Asian cultures, among which the Japanese Pagoda Bridge and Chinese Phuc Kien Assembly Hall are the most outstanding. Hoi An’s handicrafts and tailor-ship are renowned worldwide. Discover the historic town which used to be a prosperous seaport city during the 16th to 18th centuries. Visit Tan Ky Old house, which is an almost perfect example of an 18th merchant’s residence, in this major commercial port town. The name Tan Ky, meaning “Progress Shop”, was given to the house by the second generation, to express the owner’s wish for a prosperous business. In spite of the decline in business of the town and the huge devastation of annual floods, seven generations of the family have continuously striven to keep the house in good condition. Therefore, although it’s not the oldest, Tan Ky is the most well-preserved in Hoi An.
Japanese bridges for long have a reputation for their pure beauty of being graceful curves and the inspiration for Zen spirit. It’s no doubt that the most famous bridge of this kind in Vietnam is the one in Hoi An – the historic riverside town in the Central Part, and Fukien Assembly Hall (Phuc Kien) was built around 1690, and functions as a traditional assembly hall of the Chinese ethnic group from Fujian, China to socialize but was later transformed into a temple, dedicated to their deity named Thien Hau – the goddess of the sea, who protects sailors from danger. As told by the preceding generations, the Chinese in Hoi An decided to build that temple to worship the statue of the goddess, which was found in Hoi An Beach, in 1697. It is probably the most prominent among the 5 Assembly Hall in the town. You can also see local residents who raise silkworms and produce silk for Hoi An's burgeoning textile industry.
Return to your hotel in Hoi An.
Day 8
HOIAN – DANANG – HO CHI MINH CITYAfter breakfast, your guide and driver will meet you at the hotel and transfer you to Danang Airport for the morning flight to Ho Chi Minh City (if available). Visit China Town, which is famous and attractive to people everywhere it exists.
Chinese ethnic people have lived and supported their lives by many different activities such as opening food stalls serving traditional food and selling clothes or household items. Not only can tourists enjoy the delicious dishes like noodles, rice, and wontons, but they are also appealed by the colorful decoration, housing styles, and most vibrant life in District 5 of Ho Chi Minh City, with its colorful Binh Tay market, presenting many exotic ingredients and Thien Hau Temple, then go to a “Pho” house for lunch.
In the afternoon, continue the city tour including the Reunification Palace (formerly known as Independence Palace). This palace has stayed in the mind of many generations of not only Vietnamese but also foreigners. It is known as the famous historical witness which passed through the two fierce wars against the French and American colonists. The palace was built on the site of the former Norodom Palace, a landmark in Ho Chi Minh City and designed by architect Ngo Viet Thu. As Vietnam was split into North Vietnam and South Vietnam, the building served as presidential home and workplace. Today in most locals' minds, the palace is remembered vividly as a marked end to the war, just like the fall of the Berlin Wall, as the North Vietnamese tank crashed its gates on April 30th, 1975. War Remnants Museum, and photo stop at General Post Office a typical colonial French building, being a mixture of Gothic, Renaissance, and French influences, this building fascinates tourists with its typical colonial French features, from exterior to interior decorations. For the first time, visitors may feel that they’re brought back to the 20th-century railway station in Europe, rather than a post office in an Asian country. From its ornate furnishings and gorgeous pattern-tiled floor to its massively high ceilings and numerous wickets, all speak of another place in time. The interior design is even more elegant with the phone booths, which are just the same since the colonial period.
Dinner at one of the authentic Vietnamese cuisine restaurants.
Return to your hotel in Ho Chi Minh.
