Day by day Itinerary
Day 1
KOVALAMArrive at the international airport of Thiruvananthapuram. After the traditional welcome we are transferred to the hotel in Kovalam. In the evening we adjust our bikes to prepare for the ride through this gorgeous state in the coming days. We may wish to ride through the place with a guide.

Day 2
KOVALAMKovalam (Cycling 10 kms;1hr)
After breakfast we try our bikes and make any necessary adjustments. We start with a short and relaxing introductory ride through some of the local fisherman’s villages around Kovalam. There is the option to extend your ride today up to 32 kms/5 hrs passing through fishing villages and along a beautiful coastal off road. In the afternoon you may like to explore the area at leisure; walk along the sandy beaches or take on the pounding surf of the Arabian Sea. In the evening you can sit in a beachside café, enjoy the vista of fishing boats sailing out for their evening catch with a back drop of the setting sun. Our total cycling distance today is approximately 10 kms. Evening free to enjoy sea fish dinner at beach.

Day 3
Kovalam – VarkalaIn the morning we transfer to Veli by Bus. From there we cycle to Varkala via Anjengo fisherman’s village (20 kms). We watch fishermen busy in their daily chores working on their boats as we ride past Anjuthengu where we visit ‘Anjengo fort’ built by the British during the 17th century. Continuing our ride about 17 kms) we arrive in Varkala, a town that houses Janardan Swamy Temple, a pilgrimage centre for Hindus who throng this temple in large numbers. Evening here is free to relax on the beaches of this serene land and watch the golden sun sink into the Arabian Sea.

Day 4
Varkala – KollamToday we cycle through some villages alongside palm-fringed shores observing locals busy in their normal activities such as - fishing and coir making for manufacture of ropes and mats. We continue cycling through villages with lots of greenery all the way to Kollam, a village situated on the side of Ashtamundi Lake and surrounded by coconut palms and cashew plantation. After checking in to the hotel we may make an optional visit to the lighthouse (entrance not included) and Thangassery village.

Day 5
Kollam – Alleppey - MancombuIn the morning, after a short transfer to Kollam boat jetty by bus, we get on to our bikes and move south along the coastal road for about 15 kms. We cross a river on water taxis along with our bikes and continue for another 23 kms before we take the bus again for a drive to Manarasala Snake Temple, near Thottapally. Lunch at a family-run restaurant and served on traditional banana leaves is followed by a 3-hour ride on a motor launch through the backwaters all the way to our hotel near Allappey , situated in lush countryside, in the ancient trading town of Alleppey.

Day 6
AllappeyFull Day in village; visit in and around Allappey.
Today we have a free day in the backwaters for local exploration by bike and/or on foot. In the evening there is a sunset cruise on backwaters by large traditional wooden canoe.

Day 7
Allappey – ErattupettaToday also we combine driving and riding to arrive at Erattupetta, a cooler place situated 1200 metres above sea level and famous for its rubber plantations. Here we can try our hands at cooking traditional dishes in local spices and indulge in self-cooked dishes. Planters Homestay, a family mansion house and our accommodation of the night, is spacious and comfortable but does not have air conditioning in all the rooms. However, its location with greenery all around makes our stay an enjoyable experience.

Day 8
ErattupettaIn & Around Erattupetta.
Today we have various optional excursions available; including a cycle ride to the Poonjar Palace (10 kms/1hr), abandoned now but once a royal residence of the local Maharaja and his family. We can also organize a walk around local plantation to learn about various types of fruits and medicinal plants. Depending on the season, We can even walk through the gardens or take a swim in the natural rock pools or just explore the local town.
Today we cycling 10 Kms; 45 minutes.

Day 9
Erattupetta – ThekkadyIn the morning we drive through some of the steeper sections of the road and transfer to our two wheels before we continue our journey to Thekkady. We pass through a cooler region call Vagamon that showcases a gigantic carpet of tea plantations and rolling hills. The route that passes through rubber plantations may also provide us a chance to meet some of the tea pickers to know about their life before we hit our destination, which provides aroma of the great Indian spices. Upon arrival in Thekkady, we check-in to the hotel. Later, we visit the Tea Factory and a spice garden in Thekkady.

A simple remedy for the heat and humidity of the plains of Kerala is a trip to the mountains of Thekkady. Shalimar Spice Garden Resort is located at a height of 800 meters at the edge of the Periyar Tiger Reserve. The air here is relatively cool and life is simple. The straw covered cottages stand in the midst of bright green spice plantations that are surrounded with trees laden with mangoes, nutmeg and cardamom.
Day 10
Periyar National ParkIn & Around Periyar
Early in the morning we leave for a walk to Periyar National Park, one of 16 Project Tiger Reserves in India, with about 40 tigers living in this park. The other species seen in the park include star tortoise, Indian Bison, elephants, porcupines and a large number of birds. It is a short and easy nature trek in this evergreen National Park (03 hrs) the ecosystem of is very interesting - the trees grow up to 40m, and the dense canopy above allows in limited sunlight. At ground level, there are abundant ferns, orchids and air plants - plants that need little light to survive.
Rest of the day is free for optional activities like boat-ride on Periyar Lake, Martial Arts Class, Ayurvedic Message, etc.

Day 11
Thekkady – KochinToday we cycle down the winding roads of Kuttikkanam where the long -30-minute freewheel ride is most enjoyable. Here we take the bus and continue for three hours to the bustling port of Kochi, famous for its beautiful natural harbor that earned it the title ‘Queen of the Arabian Sea’. It is also the oldest European settlement in India. With its mix of English, Dutch and Portuguese influences, Cochin is also home to the famous Kathakali dancers. In the evening there is an option to watch Kathakali dance show that normally portrays events from the Ramayana and Mahabharata, two great Indian epics.

KOCHINIn & Around Kochin by Cycle.
From our hotel we cycle to Mattancherry and to visit Mattancherry Palace and Jewish Synagogue. From there we cycle through the commercial area and children’s playground to visit St. Francis Church. Evening is free to explore the Fort Kochi is its Bazaars.There is an option for a longer ride to Andhakaranazy beach about 30 Kms from Kochi. Riding through many fishing villages we cover a total distance of around 65 Kms in a round trip of this optional tour.

Cross the Tharo Kosi river via a locally designed suspension bridge — one of many you'll pass over. From here you'll see the Kusum Kanguru peak. See the first of a few mani-stone painted ridges as you had to Phakding. Walk along the Dudh Kosi river on your way to Namche Bazaar, a trading center. You'll several villages separated by various forestry before arriving. Cross again at the Kyashar Khola river as you head to Monjo and then the Sagarmatha National Park. To acclimatize, you'll hike to the gorgeous villages of Thame, Phurte, Thamo, and Somde to reach Thami. Mounts Teng Kang Poche and Kwangde can be seen from here. On to Dole, you'll also see Khumbila and Tawache. You'll next head to Macchermo, and then Pangku, which is home to a large cave. Lake Longponga and Taujun both lie ahead of Gokyo, the home of stone houses and walled pastures. As you move on to the Cho La pass, you'll trek up to Kala Patter and, finally, the Everest Base Camp.
