We have covered the total road distance (56 Mile / Km) but mostly on the dirt road and lots of ups and down took us about 6 hours to complete. Lahe (the capital of Naga self-administrative Zone, which includes Lahe, Lashi and Namyone townships). Lahe is beautifully parched at a ridge under the shadow of Marlar Hill. This afternoon, we will explore the town and visit Naga traditional Pan (where Naga worriers gather to strike the wooden bell during the Naga New Year festival)

Day 2
Lahe - Hwe Htaik (Elevation: min: 883 meter- max: 1380) (Putao nature)After breakfast, your guide will meet you at the local guest house. Leave Lahe and follow dirt trail. The vegetation changes here to thick evergreen the forests and now we find ourselves following steady flowing Hwe Htaik creek. After about two hour trek, we will find Hwe Htaik village, perched on the top of the mountain overlooking the entire valley. The Naga tribes who live at Hwe Htaik are of the Lai Naung clan, they do not want to join other groups, instead, they prefer their own group.
Distance covered – 17 km, trek time: 7-8 hour.
Check-in at a local guest house.
Day 3
Hwe Htaik - Pon Nyo (Nok Inn) (Elevation: min: 113) (Putao Last Village Trek children)After breakfast, your guide will meet you at the local guest house. Explore the village and observe the everyday activities of the villagers. Later, we head off to our next destination Pon Nyo Nok Inn. As soon as we leave the village, the trail goes straight down all the way to the valley. Traditionally, the Nagas always live on the top of the hills for better protection of enemies. (the Nagas used to practice headhunting and live in the small clan-like communities). The Pon Nyo Nok Inn has a beautiful perched village on a mountain ridge or spine and secured by higher mountains in all directions and in the south by the Hwe Htaik creek.
Distance covered – 12 km, trek time: 5-6 hour approx.
Check-in at a local guest house.
Day 4
Pon Nyo (Nok Kone) (Elevation: min:780m max:2060m) (Phongun Razi mountain)After breakfast, your guide will meet you at the local guest house. Today, the trekking route climbs up to the top of the ridge which is around 6700ft high, and from here, the trail descends down the valley to 2500ft, then climbs up again steadily uphill to 3800ft to our destination of the day. There is no settlement between these two villages, but most part through the complete wilderness in rich rain forests. As usual, we walk around the village to meet and greet the locals. Join the village headman if he is around for a dinner and learn about local life over dinner and fire. Pon Nyo N/K is located close to the Myanmar-Indian border and accessible with the motorbike and smaller 4WD vehicles during the dry season.
Distance covered – 19 km, trek time: 8-9 hour approx.
Check-in at a local guest house.
Day 5
Pon Nyo (Nok Kone) — Saw Law — Sapalaw (Elevation: min: 632m — max 1200m) (Phongun Razi Trekking Peak)After breakfast, your guide will meet you at the local guest house. Once we reach the valley, the trail goes straight up to Saw Law, another ancient village and is believed to be the center of the warriors. From here, we see our destination village, on the top of a distant mountain across Thetyan valley. Our trail leads us down to the bottom of the valley and creek and climbs up again gently to nearly 4000 ft. You will be rewarded with great views over the valley and pretty village and its environments. Sapalaw Ywarma Ma is one of the oldest and most interesting Naga villages in the region where the community has lived rather isolated life tucked away from other Naga groups and outside influences.
Distance covered – 18 km, trek time: 8-9 hour approx.
Check-in at a local guest house.
Day 6
Sapalaw (Ywarma)-Sapalaw-Lahe (Elevation:min 390m max1640m) (Phongun Razi)Wake up early with the villages, have breakfast and observe the locals getting ready for their daily works on fields and by their houses. We bid farewells to our hosts and head for Lahe. The first part of the journey is on foot straight down to the creek and once crossing the trail climbs gently up again and soon we find ourselves hiking along mule tracks and eventually a road which can be used with a motorbike all year round but 4WD only during the dry season. Lunch stop and meeting our driver to pick us up here and transfer back to Lahe. Enjoy being back to civilization. Shower time, laundry, food from the restaurant, etc. and if lucky mobile internet connection to send a message home.
Distance covered – 18 km, trek time: 9, driving: 3 hours approx.
Check-in at a local guest house.
Day 7
Lahe – Khamti (Elevation: min 140m max 1470m) (Phongun Razi forest)Leisure time in the morning. Walk around the town and browse the modest shops. Later, we travel to Khamti around 4hrs. Afternoon free to explore Khamti town, market, and football pitches. Low lying Khamti was considered northwesternmost part of the extensive Shan homeland. A few remnants of colonial-era still remain at this remote outpost. The British created an enclave on a hill named Bo-Gone (meaning British Hill), but only the administrative office near Khamti hospital still remains there. The descendants of “Myosar” or the headman's family now live a normal life like everyone else, although their home was once the biggest in town. Over time the hill Naga has migrated to this fertile flat region. The population comprises nowadays quite evenly of both Naga and Shan.
Check-in at a local guest house.
Day 8
Khamti – Mandalay (Khamti – Mandalay)After breakfast, your guide and driver will meet you at a local guest house and transfer to the airport to fly to MANDALAY.

Walking in Myanmar: Villages, Temples and Tribes
As Myanmar opens up to an ever-increasing number of visitors, the challenge is to continue to develop tours that offer truly authentic and memorable experiences. This is exactly what we hope to have achieved with this trip, which spends much of its time away from the main roads, preferring to focus instead on village life in the stunning Burmese countryside. Spending more days primarily on our feet, we’ll take to the hills and visit a wide variety of the ethnic peoples that make up Myanmar. Each day’s trekking may have its own set of challenges, but this is not a trip about ‘bagging peaks’, rather this is an opportunity for those who prefer a slightly more active approach to experiencing a country and are willing to put in the effort required to reach some of the country’s remote areas. However, when all is said and done, no visit would be complete without taking in the famed areas of Bagan and Lake Inle and there will be ample time to enjoy these better-known highlights too.
